About Us

The idea for Shade Tree Organic Grains began when my sister-in-law introduced me to milling grain into flour at home. It was winter, and we no longer had grain from our own farm to mill, so I (Sandra) started looking for grain to buy. I quickly realized that organic grain wasn’t always easy to find—and that we were already growing organic grain ourselves. And just like that, the idea for Shade Tree Organic Grains was born.

Craig grew up doing odd jobs on farms and helping his grandpas on their farms. He met Sandra in Kansas while working on a wheat harvest combining crew. Craig had always dreamed of farming, and that dream became a reality when we bought our farm in 2018. As we’ve become more aware of where our food comes from, we couldn’t be more honored to provide good, organic grain that ends up on our table—and YOURS!

We’ve grown corn, soybeans, and winter wheat for nearly eight years, but Craig enjoys trying new things. This season, he grew spring wheat and einkorn for the first time so we could expand the grains we offer to you. Organic farming gives him the challenge of finding quality organic fertilizers and inputs that improve soil health and give the plants what they need, when they need it. The goal is a higher-quality product that can provide better, more nutritious results in the baked goods coming from your kitchen.
